Object Description:

U.S. PISTOL MODEL 1911A1 .45 SN# 2302240
Manufactured by Colt, Hartford, Ct. in 1945 - Standard recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol with 7-round detachable box magazine feed mechanism. Blade front, fixed square notch rear sight. Muzzle velocity 830 fps, with effective range of 50 yards, and maximum range 1900 yards. WWII contract piece with green parkerized finish. Two-piece checkered plastic grips. Weapon weighs approximately 2.7 lbs. Cartridge: .45 ACP, weighs 230 gr. Colt manufactured 119,450 M1911A1s in 1945.

Frame: UNITED STATES PROPERTY/NO.23002240. M1911A1 U.S. ARMY. Left side: G.H.D./P. GHD = Guy H. Drewry.
Slide: PATENTED APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902/DEC. 19, 1905. FEB. 14, 1911. AUG. 19, 1913. Rampant Colt. COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.
Triggerguard: 56. Left side: T. VP in triangle.
Magazine: 8 etched on.

Weapon transferred to the Museum on 6 June 1961. At that time weapon was appraised at $57.60.
