Object Description:

NORWICH ARMS CO. REVOLVER .32 SN# 12
Manufactured by Hood Firearms Co., Norwich, Ct. - Revolvers of the general type known as a "Suicide Special," this spur trigger revolver, c.1870-90, is a bit more fancy than most encountered. Spur trigger. Nickel plated, nicely engraved, gold wash in cylinder flutes and with cast white-metal grips showing a stag in a forest in high relief. Although marked Norwich Arms Co., it is believed these pistols were manufactured by Hood. The April 23, 1879 patent was assigned to the Hood Firearms Co. Weapon is mechanically sound with 90% original finish.

Markings:
Barrel: NORWICH ARMS CO. 32. (Left side): PATD. APR. 23, 1879.
Frame: 12 underneath left grip.

Weapon donated to the Museum by Frederic W. Hartwell, Wellesley, Ma. on 6 June 1958. According to Army records this weapon was "purchased by his father in Malden, Mass., in about 1900."

Army #6980 - "The weapon was valued at between $15.00 to $22.50 in the year of 1951."
