MOSSBERG RIFLE MODEL 144-LS .22
Manufactued by Mossberg, New Haven, Ct. - Mossberg Model 144-LS rifle. Bolt-action. Target model. Pistol-grip target stock. Lyman No. 57 MS receiver peep sight. Lyman No. 17 A front sight. Beavertail forearm. Sling swivels. 7-round detachable box magazine fed. No magazine but otherwise complete and in very good condition.
Markings:
Barrel: O.F. MOSSBERG & SONS, INC. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A./MODEL 144-LS. 22 S-L-LR.
Sight: LYMAN.
Weapon transferred to the Museum on 18 August 1967. At that time weapon was appraised at $50.00.
Notes: "M144LS, 1954-59. Made with a ball-type bolt handle, this had a Lyman No. 57MSS rear sight and a Lyman No. 17A globe front sight. It was replaced by the 144LS-A (1960-79), with a Mossberg S130 rear sight, and finally by the 144LS-B (1979-85) with a 27in barrel and a Mossberg 531 sight." - Walter
