Object Description:

U.S. SABER MODEL 1872 CAVALRY OFFICER'S
Manufactured by Springfield Armory, Springfield, Ma. - Modified. Guard removed and submitted to 1906 Cavalry Board for testing as NCO saber. One of three submitted. Complete with 33 1/2" metal scabbard. The Springfield Armory manufactured 1,976 M1872 Cavalry Officer's sabers.

Markings:
Blade: SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/SPRINGFIELD/MASS. U.S.
Reverse: PLURIBUS Eagle UNUM.
Scabbard: L.

1909 Catalog #13046 - "Saber. Officer's Saber. This saber was before the Board on Equipment and Uniform, July 29, 1902. Bright steel scabbard."

Notes: 1,976 manufactured. Before Equipment Board 7/29/1902.
