Object Description:
JAPANESE BAYONET TYPE 30
Manufactured by Tokyo Arsenal, Tokyo, Japan - Early production model Type 30 bayonet with hooked crossguard. Blade appears to have been blued at one time, little original finish left. Two piece, screw fastened, wood grips. Bird's head pommel. Fuller running 12" on blade. Complete with 16 1/2" metal scabbard.
Markings:
Obverse: Symbol for Tokyo Arsenal.
Back strap: 2354.
Pommel: 218184 appears to be backwards 8/1.
Notes: "Japanese Type 30 - Arisaka. This is the first model of the series and has fullers, a hook, contour grips fastened by screws and a contoured bird's head pommel with a serial number on the end of the pommel. The first versions had the serial number on the crossguard, then the back strap (numbered to the rifles) and, finally, the pommel. These come with bright and blue finished blades...." - Jerry L.
