Object Description:

POWDER FLASK
Manufactured by John Matthewman, New Haven, Ct. - Copper powder flask with patent and adjustable spout top, four carrying rings and with raised "dead game" motif of two dogs, deer and fox heads surrounded with oak leaf border. Soldered repair to bottom of flask otherwise complete and in good condition.

Markings:
Top of flask marked: J. MATTHEWMAN. Relief is on one side of flask only.

Powder flask donated to the Springfield Armory NHS by Tufts University (Victor A. Friend Collection) on 3 August 1979.

Friend's #A-25 - "Copper Powder Flask. 7 inch. Raised scene of pair of hunting dogs, with oak leaf and acorn borders, also shows fox head and elk head. Has two pairs of rings for shoulder cord."
