Object Description:

POWDER FLASK
Made by Batty, Springfield, Ma. - Copper powder flask with brass patent top with adjustable charge. Two carrying rings. Body of flask has embossed scene on one side only showing an Indian standing over a deer. Backside of flask is plain.

Markings:
Top face marked: BATTY/1851.

Flask donated to the Springfield Armory NHS by Tufts University (Victor A. Friend Collection) on 3 August 1979.

Friend's #A-32 - "Heavy Copper Powder Flask. 7 inch. Very elaborate design of Indian hunter, with gun, powder horn and tomahawk, standing with one foot on dead deer. Also shows hunting dog and old tree in background. Brass top cap unscrews for filling flask. Graduated muzzle with inside valve spring."
