Object Description:

POWDER FLASK
Manufactured by American Flask & Cap Co., Waterbury, Ct. - Large copper powder flask with brass patent top with internal spring, adjustable spout and top that unscrews from neck. Has four carrying ring - one missing. Both sides of body have ornate "oak leaf" motif surrounding a scene of an Indian on horseback hunting a bison. See Riling #581 or #582. Except for one missing ring in good condition.

Powder flask donated to the Springfield Armory NHS by Tufts University (Victor A. Friend Collection) on 3 August 1979.

Friend's #A-37 - "Large Copper Powder Flask. 8 1/2 inch. This very elaborate design shows an Indian hunter on horseback shooting a buffalo, with mountain background. The border is of oak leaf and acorn design, with fox head at bottom and large V underneath elk head at top. Graduated brass nozzle with inside valve spring. Marked 'American Flask & Cap Company."
