Notes: "With war on the horizon, in 1930 Poland decided that it might be best to standardize their motley assortment of obsolete handguns and held a trial for submitted designs. The design submitted by Skrzypinski and Wilniewczyc, engineers for Skoda, won. Commencing in 1936, the Government Small Arms Factory manufactured the pistol under the name VIS-35. VIS was said to be the acronym for the inventors' initials W (V), I (and) S. It is also the Polish word for power, so you may draw your own conclusions. When the Germans captured Poland, they continued to produce the pistol for their growing needs, and as the war progressed and necessity grew, output became paramount. Thus the late pistols were quite crude." - Robert H. Balderson
