PENETRATION TEST BLOCK
Single seasoned oak block used to test penetrating power of .45-70 round which penetrated to a distance of 3 1/2" with charge of 70 grains and a muzzle velocity of 1315 ft./sec. Weapon fired at 25 feet from target. Date of test is unrecorded but is believed to be late 19th centruy.

Markings:
Old U.S. Army exhibit label: 957. OAK BLOCK, SEASONED./PENETRATION OF/SPRINGFIELD RIFLE/CAL. 45 MODEL 1870.

Notes: Date of test unrecorded but believed to be late 19th or early 20th century.
